Independent analytics publishing from a converted warehouse on East Sixth Street.
Founded March 2019 in Austin, Texas, by Miguel “Bicho” Saldaña and Priya Raman — two ex-Looker and ex-Mode analysts who walked away from vendor ecosystems to fact-check the charts other people publish.
From the editors
A letter from Miguel and Priya.
Three years into our respective jobs — Miguel on the Looker solutions team, Priya building internal tools at Mode — we kept landing on the same problem. Dashboards were being shipped into rooms where real money was being allocated, and nobody in the room could answer the first question an honest analyst asks: show me the row counts. The vendors we worked for were brilliant at the rendering layer and incurious about the source. The brands we read were chasing traffic with listicles that never opened a CSV. The newsletters in our inbox were 80% sponsored.
We started Bichoto Blog on March 11, 2019, in the back office of a print shop on East Sixth Street, because nobody was fact-checking the charts. Six years and 487 long-reads later, we are still independently owned. We carry no ads, no sponsored content, and no affiliate links. Every chart in this publication is hand-built by the editorial team and backed by an original dataset you can download. When we get something wrong, the correction runs in the next Friday’s brief, in the same place, with the row count that fixed it.
What follows is the masthead, the standards we will not break, and a few receipts for the journalists who have started to call us.
— Miguel Saldaña & Priya Raman, founders & editors-in-chief, Austin.

Section 03 · How we publish
Four rules the newsroom does not break.
The standards below are non-negotiable. They were drafted in the founding letter and have not been amended since. Skeptics are welcome to test them against the archive.
-
I.
No sponsors. No ad networks. No paid placement.
Bichoto Blog carries zero advertising. No banner, no native unit, no sponsored newsletter slot. The publication is funded entirely by reader subscriptions. Any future commercial relationship will be disclosed in the masthead before it runs; none currently exist.
-
II.
Every chart ships with its CSV.
Every visualization in the publication is built from an original dataset that we publish alongside the article — row counts, timestamps, and source queries included. If a chart cannot survive a reader’s independent re-aggregation, it does not run.
-
III.
Pre-publication fact-check against source data.
Two editors and one statistician (PhD required for the statistician role) sign off on every published number against the underlying dataset. The check happens before the piece is queued for Friday, not after a reader complains.
-
IV.
A public corrections log.
When we are wrong, the correction runs in the next Friday brief, in the same column position, with the corrected row count and the row count that produced the original error. The corrections log is searchable and never edited after the fact.
